Hi friends,
I’m excited to introduce you to Special Projects, a newsletter inspired by a class I took in grad school with the same name.
The Special Projects Workshop was a course where students could pitch their own projects and were encouraged to think outside of non-traditional forms and genres.
To be accepted, you had to submit a proposal complete with a rationale, outline, and schedule. (Mine was very lofty and is quite funny in hindsight, maybe I’ll share it one day.)
Anyway, I loved how seriously the course took experimentation; how it encouraged freedom by providing constraints. It was essentially saying: you can work on anything you want, but don’t half-ass it!
That’s what I’m hoping to do in this newsletter. Experiment with different projects, and engage in seriously playful discussions.
What can you expect from Special Projects?
Different mini-series that will come out in batches like your favorite cookies or TV show. You might receive a letter 4-5 weeks in a row, and then not receive one again for a while until the next project comes to fruition.
The first series, or project, is called Not (Not) Lonely and it’s launching in a few weeks. It’s about art, creativity, loneliness, and connection.
Stay tuned!
Yours,
Charlee
